There are as many different reasons to become an entrepreneur as there are entrepreneurs, but these are some of the main reasons people opt for the entrepreneurial lifestyle. If you ask us, being an entrepreneur is the best thing ever. We feel so much happier and aligned with our purpose since we started Life’s Work Lab. Everything we do for our business, we do because it’s exactly what we want to do. We’re building our dream life while helping others build theirs. We can’t imagine anything better than that.
Because you are here, reading this, you probably have your own reasons for being interested in entrepreneurship. Maybe reading some of the other benefits of entrepreneurship is just what you need to finally take the leap.
Here are our 10 reasons to become an entrepreneur:
When you start your own business, you are in charge. You decide what you spend your time on and how many hours you want to work. You are in control. Nobody is going to get mad at you if you start your workday five minutes later than planned. You also get to set your own priorities. For us, autonomy is a very important part of what makes entrepreneurship so ideal.
2. Impact & Legacy
How do you want to be remembered? Wouldn’t it be great if people would remember you for the difference you made in the world? We’re not saying being an entrepreneur is the only way to leave a legacy, but doing work in alignment with your purpose gives you a lot more time to put towards your mission.
Depending on what you do, being an entrepreneur gives you a lot of freedom. You decide when and where you work from, how much money you make (there’s no ceiling), you can travel more and take breaks whenever you please. If you have a family, it also gives you the possibility to be there for them a lot more often. It’s easier to take an afternoon off to spend time with them.
As I mentioned, you have more control over how much money you make. The possibilities to make money are pretty much endless. Especially if you know how to leverage the internet to generate passive income. Of course, you need to work hard in order to generate an income, but as an entrepreneur, you don’t have to exchange your time for a paycheck.
If you do work in alignment with your purpose, doing what you love most, you’ll feel incredibly satisfied. As an entrepreneur, you basically get to design your dream job. Of course, you’ll also sometimes have to do things that you won’t necessarily enjoy. However, as an entrepreneur, you can keep those things to a bare minimum and spend the rest (and most) of your time doing things that energize you and make you feel fulfilled.
6. Location Independence
Work from anywhere in the world! From a cute coffee shop in town to a hammock on a white sandy beach. Depending on what you do and how you do it, you can work from wherever you want. In a lot of cases, all you need is a cellphone and a laptop to do your job. We have often daydreamed about traveling around the world while doing our job and meeting with inspiring people from all around the globe. Wouldn’t that be awesome?
You can do things your way. Design your own strategies, do your own marketing and branding so your business breathes authenticity, organize events, create products and services… There are a thousand ways to express your creativity when you’re an entrepreneur.
8. Be healthier
Research suggests that entrepreneurs are healthier than employees. As the amount of small business increased, the health of the community improved. In spite of the stresses that are often associated with entrepreneurship, James Clear confirmed that business owners have a lower incidence of physical and mental illnesses, visit the hospital less often and report higher levels of life satisfaction. Sounds pretty good, huh?
9. No need for a degree
Sometimes, the school system just doesn’t work for a person. The fact of the matter is that it’s just not designed to work perfectly for everyone. It works great for some people and there’s definitely value in getting a degree, but as an entrepreneur, it won’t necessarily limit you. As an entrepreneur, you’ll be judged on your ability and experience, not whether or not you have a paper to prove you know how to do certain things.
In addition to being healthier, entrepreneurs are also happier. They report higher mental wellbeing than those in a comfortable, steady job. It has nothing to do with the amount of money you make as an entrepreneur. Contrary to the popular saying, money can – to some degree – buy happiness as it enables a lot of things in life. However, as it turns out, entrepreneurship makes you happy, no matter how much you make. After reading these reasons, you'll want to become an entrepreneur! Click To Tweet
